How to run the Night Desk
You're the night clerk at the Hotel Ambergris. Every night a new set of guests needs rooms. Give everyone a room they're happy with, then ring the bell to see how well they slept. Somewhere in tonight's register is a werewolf.
The week
A new night every day. Monday is gentle and each day gets harder until Sunday.
| Mon–Tue | One floor, four or five guests, plain clues. |
| Wed–Thu | Two floors. Gossip, and clues about other guests. |
| Friday | A room out of order, and clues like "whoever is across the hall from the Colonel". |
| Sat–Sun | Guests arrive one at a time and keys are final. Sunday has three floors and a hotel inspector. |
The hotel
Each floor has six rooms. The sea is on one side of the hall, Harbour Street on the other.

- Next door: side by side on the same side of the hall (21 and 22).
- Across: directly opposite (21 and 24).
- Above / below: same position, one floor up or down (21 is above 11).
- Near: any of those four.
- Rooms ending 1 and 4 are by the stairs. Rooms ending 3 and 6 get the sunrise.
Reading the files
- Tap a guest to open their file. "Can't sleep without hearing the waves" means a sea-side room.
- Some clues depend on bios: "Can't sleep near anyone musical" means the soprano and the tuba player.
- Lines marked Overheard are about a different guest. Read every file before you start.
The werewolf
- The porter's notes describe the werewolf without naming it. Rule guests out until one is left. Check-in times count.
- ☾ marks the rooms the moon reaches tonight. If the werewolf ends up in one, the night is a complete disaster.
The bell
- Monday to Friday: tap a guest, then a room. Move people around as much as you like.
- Saturday and Sunday: guests arrive in order and each key is final, so plan the whole hotel first.
- You ring the bell once per night and that result is final.
- Everyone can sleep 8 hours. Each unmet need costs that guest some sleep. Meet them all for a perfect night, which unlocks the morning's story.
- On Thursdays and Sundays two guests have fallen out, so nobody can manage a perfect night. One insists, the other would rather not: the night shows the best possible total, and hitting it counts as a win.
- Avoid disasters to keep your streak going.
